How I’ve Been Downsizing My Book Collection
In my last post, I shared that I’m downsizing my book collection this year. A far cry from last year where all I ever seemed to be doing was building it up. Like I said though I’ve already gotten rid of several boxes of books and thought I’d share what this process looks like for me, and maybe you’ll find some things that will help you if you’re also trying to downsize your collection this year. Giving Them to Friends A lot of my friends are also readers. That being said they read very specific things as they tend to only read a few books a year. But, that being…

Why I’m Downsizing My Book Collection in 2020
I have too many books. I’ve known this for quite a while. It’s a problem I’ve been dealing with but I didn’t know exactly what to do about it, it’s also a problem that I think a lot of readers and writers tend to get if they aren’t careful. Freud once said that the only thing more addicting then nicotine was book collecting. I’ve found that you can always find a reason to keep a book, maybe you’re going to read it, read it again, or maybe use it for research for something else. But, the ugly truth at least for me is that if I’ve put off reading something…

My Goals For 2020
It’s officially a New Year which means it’s time to figure out the goals that I hope to achieve this year. This year my goals are all centered around writing and publishing, I’ve got a lot of things that I want to get out, all of which are already done. 1) Publish Everything I’ve got a whole mess of stand-alone novels and series starters finished that I haven’t put out. Which there is no excuse for, as far as I’m concerned. My goal for 2020 is to release all of it. I’m probably going to go wide on everything I’ll go into the reasons why on that later. 2) Do…

Happy New Year!!!
It’s officially 2020, I’m about a day late posting this because for me yesterday was all about recovery. I spent New Year’s Eve down in Richmond ringing in the New Year with my friends. Sadly, we didn’t wind up at one of the many roaring 20’s parties that everyone seemed to be having. On the bright side, we’ve still got ten years of the 2020s to make up for it. Since it’s the New Year I thought I’d share what I’ve been working on and what I’ve got coming out this year. Last year, I moved cities which if you’ve ever done that you understand that it can be tough…

Serial Issue 14 Is Out Now!
To be fair it’s been out for a little while now, but there was a correction that had to be run, so that is why I’m posting it now. There is a lot of good stuff in issue 14 and it was a lot of fun to work on. I especially enjoyed the story “This Sword for Hire” since it blended fantasy and mystery together pretty seamlessly. And honestly had me caring enough about the world afterward to want to read more. This issue also contains the fifth installment of “The Unsettler” and so much more as always you can get a copy by going directly to Serial Pulp.

Monster Monday: El Cuero
I came across this monster from South American folklore by accident, but I’m glad that I did because it’s absolutely terrifying. El Cuero is said to resemble a floating cured cowhide. It has stalk-like eyes, a barbed tail, and razor-like claws around its fringes which are said to be used to clasp onto prey. Resembling some sort of prehistoric stingray from Hell it’s got wide pectoral fins and can be anywhere from 2-5 feet long and around 65 pounds in weight. The El Cuero is said to hunt around the Chilean glacial Lake Lacar in the Andes Mountains. There is however a family of freshwater stingrays in the lake however…

10 Horror Movies to Watch For Back to School
While I’m no longer in school, I still enjoy back to school movie marathons. When I was growing up many TV channels used to actually host them and I would stay up late trying to watch some cult movie that I hadn’t seen before. Now you’d be hard-pressed to find a TV channel doing something like that, maybe Comet. But, in the world of streaming, it’s never been easier to put together your own. That’s what my little brother did, he went back to school this week and asked for some movie recommendations, which is how this list originally came about. Mostly to remind him that school isn’t forever unless…

Monster Monday: The Bugbear
Lumped in with the Bogey’s, Boogeyman, and Bugaboos the Bugbear is thought to have popped up around Medieval times finding its way in folklore as a creepy bear that had nothing better to do than lurk in the woods waiting to scare children. But, my introduction to the Bugbear didn’t come from Grazzini’s La Spiritatta from 1561. No, like most of you reading this mine came from Roleplaying games. Most notably Dungeons and Dragons, where the Bugbear is seen as a much bigger and smarter version of Hobgoblins. First introduced to the game in 1975, in the Greyhawk supplement and has remained a staple in the game ever since. Mostly…

5 Books to Read if You Liked Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
If like me you loved the new Scary Stories to To Tell in the Dark movie and want to revisit some nostalgic horror classics than I’ve put together this list just for you. Growing up I loved horror books like this. Some of my favorite memories of this are of me sitting under the covers with one of the books from the list checked out from the library, my explorer’s trench flashlight with the red lens put in for added effect, getting so scared that I’d have to leave the flashlight on until I fell asleep. Only to get fussed at by my parents when they came in to get…
