5 Of My All Time Favorite Goosebumps Books
The best part of quarantine is that I’ve been able to go back through memory lane, especially when it comes to things I love about the horror genre. Like a lot of kids who grew up in the 90’s and early 2000’s my introduction to horror books came through Goosebumps. There was absolutely nothing else like them on the shelves at the Scholastic book fairs.
Recently I also made my first foray into YouTube which I will post later in the week when the editing is done, in the video I talk about the first Goosebumps book I ever read which is also the book that started it all Welcome to Dead House. So, I thought it would be fun to list out my top 5 favorite Goosebumps books and why, I like them so much.
1) Welcome to Dead House
This is the book that started it all not just for Goosebumps series but also for me reading horror books. I’ve been the new kid numerous times growing up and this book was like the worst case scenario of what might happen in a new town.
2) Ghost Beach
Ghost Beach, is probably the Goosebumps book that scared me the most growing up. I loved the fact that when it came to ghosts and the undead, Goosebumps has always stuck to the fact that dogs and other animals can sense them. This plays a big part in this story and made me paranoid every time my dog barked when I was a kid. Not to mention that the ending has always stuck with me.
3) Werewolf of Fever Swamp
I was terrified of werewolves as a kid and growing up near marshlands and swamps the thought of one living out there chilled me to the bone.
4) Monster Blood
Monster Blood was like a kids version of the Blob, it was also my first introduction to the idea of the unkillable monster. Which this was, just like the Blob you can’t stop it only contain it.
5) Curse of the Mummy’s Tomb
I’m not actually afraid Mummy’s, but I’ve always loved stories about them. Sadly, there isn’t that many books with Mummy’s as the central monster but thankfully there are a few Goosebumps books about it. I’ve always loved The Curse of the Mummy’s Tomb, and Return of the Mummy is also worth checking out.
