My Goals For 2020
It’s officially a New Year which means it’s time to figure out the goals that I hope to achieve this year. This year my goals are all centered around writing and publishing, I’ve got a lot of things that I want to get out, all of which are already done.
1) Publish Everything
I’ve got a whole mess of stand-alone novels and series starters finished that I haven’t put out. Which there is no excuse for, as far as I’m concerned. My goal for 2020 is to release all of it. I’m probably going to go wide on everything I’ll go into the reasons why on that later.
2) Do More With Patreon
I set up a Patreon a couple of years ago, one that I’ve never really pushed or did very much with, to be honest. For the most part, I set it up to make sure that I’d have a lot of the features I wanted to be grandfathered in before they changed things. This year I’m going to start using it more. Some of the things I’m going I plan to post on there are early cover reveals, exclusive short stories, readings, and hopefully even a serial novel once I can sit down and decide which one I want to use. 3) Wattpad
I’ve already got stuff on Wattpad, but there’s a project that I’ve started to do on there that isn’t live yet but will be soon. I’m calling it Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai which means A Gathering of 101 Supernatural Tales, I’ll explain more about it down the road, but it’s kind of something I’ve always wanted to do. I plan to meet the goal of 101 short stories, not in 2020 but over time. I’ll do another post later on why Wattpad, but suffice to say that I think a lot of what they’re doing with their site is exciting. They’ve got a lot of readers and are now working with publishers and producers, not to mention they just unveiled a model for paying writers on the platform kind of like Medium, another platform I’m planning on using more this year. You can find my Wattpad stuff that’s currently up at: https://www.wattpad.com/user/writing4ghosts
4) YouTube
I planned to launch my channel last year, I filmed a bunch of videos mostly book haul videos and several reviews, but never posted them. Which in hindsight is something that I’m happy for, the hauls were a slippery slope I think because while I do collect books I’m not buying them in bulk all the time and I’m actively trying to downsize my collection. Most “hauls” I do are throughout the week and come from the free and discounted book lists I subscribe too. And my reviews weren’t great either, so now that I’ve gotten a nicer camera I took the plunge and got a Panasonic Lumix G7 not just for YouTube but it’ll get the job done, and I plan to post videos on a weekly basis after the channel is launched. When it is launched I’ll send out emails and post to the blog.
5) Blog More
This is another one I planned to do more of last year and didn’t. Mostly I think because I was too afraid to actually blog about the things I wanted too. Most of which revolved around writing, publishing, reading, fandoms, and life junk. Imposter syndrome is alive and well, but I’m going to take the plunge anyway. You might have noticed Monster Mondays are gone, and I’ve got an exciting announcement about the reason why that is that will come out later in the year.
6) Podcast
If you’ve been following me for any length of time you know that I’ve been part of several podcasts at this point. Live From Planet Mongo and Death By Writing, both of which kind of fizzled out as life stuff happened for my co-hosts. It happens and I’m still friends with those people, but while Live From Planet Mongo is officially dead and gone, I plan on bringing back Death By Writing at some point in 2020. I’d always envisioned it as an interview-style podcast where I could talk to my favorite writers across all sorts of mediums but imposter syndrome cropped up again and it became something else. There will be more news to come, but I do have some writers lined up for interviews and suffice to say I’m excited to see where this goes.
Those are my goals for 2020, which can be summed up as do the things that I’m supposed to be doing anyway. What about you do dear reader did you set any goals for this year? If so feel free to share them with me here and we can try to keep each other accountable in 2020.
