My Halloween Reading List
I know I’m a little late in posting this, but I promise I’ve been working on a lot of great stuff that’s coming out soon. My October reading list isn’t filled with too much adult horror this year, instead it’s more of a nostalgia trip. Something October tends to be for me anyway. This list started out a little longer with several other books, but since I’m going to be on a road trip to Salem near the end of the month it wouldn’t have been possible to finish them.
- The Dark-Thirty: Patricia C. McKissack
This book scared me as a kid and it’s one of my favorite books to revisit when I can. Luckily, my local library carries a copy and I was able to read it again this year.
2. Hocus Pocus & The All-New Sequel by A.W. Jantha
I grew up on the Hocus Pocus movie so when I saw this at the library I knew I had to grab it. The first part is basically a novelization of the original movie with a follow-up sequel at the end, which follows the kid of the two main protagonists from the first one. I’ve only just started it, but so far it’s not bad.
3. Spookesville Books 7-9
I’ve slowly been making my way through the Spooksville series, it’s been harder than I’ve liked to find all the books. But, they’re very entertaining and one of those series that I never read in order as a kid and often left them sitting on a shelf in favor of Goosebumps and other books. Now, that I’m older I get a lot more of the jokes and banter and all around revisiting this series has been entertaining, to say the least.
4. Lore
I’m late to the Lore podcast, but it’s quickly become one of my favorites. There’s nothing better for me than reading a book filled with scary tales based on real-life events and just wondering whether or not something might be lurking out there in the dark.
5. The Scavenger Hunt by Christopher Pike
I love Christopher Pike’s books. If that hasn’t been made clear, I was lucky to find a small stash of some of his early teen horror books at a used book store down in Myrtle Beach. Among them was the Scavanger Hunt which I’m already halfway into. It’s ominious and starts off pretty dark, with a kid being blamed for not being able to save another who died in a flash flood and an end of the year Scavanger Hunt which seems just a little too sinister.
